Thai cooking at its best …

And we cooked it! Whilst on a recent trip with friends to Koh Samui, we decided to immerse ourselves in the local culture by taking a Thai cooking class. As always, our first port of call was Trip Advisor to see what the options were. Smiley Cook Samui stood out – it was the best rated cooking class on the site by far. Everyone seemed to love it. As the maximum class size is four and there were four of us, it really was like a private class. It was so much fun! We were picked up from our hotel foyer at 9.00 am by Tony and Bung and taken to the local market where we learnt about the more unusual produce and purchased ingredients for the dishes we’d chosen to cook, before heading to their home to start the class. In the class everyone gets to choose a recipe and then everyone cooks each dish. We decided on:

  • Massaman Curry Chicken
  • Thai Beef Salad
  • Green Curry (chicken / prawn)
  • Steamed Fish with Ginger

Bung was a fabulous teacher who explained things really well. She and Tony have a great sense of humour so we enjoyed plenty of laughs along the way. When we had finished cooking we sat in their dining room to enjoy the amazing feast we had created. Tony then delivered us back to our hotel – door to door service at its finest. This was one of our best days out in Koh Samui. It was good value too – 1600 Baht per head (approximately A$63). I’m a great believer in making sure you learn something new every day, and we learnt a lot on this day. Smiley Cook Samui certainly put a smile on our faces and it will put a smile on the faces of our dinner guests when we put into practice what we learnt. Thank you Bung and Tony!
